In an interview given on 15 February, European Commission Vice-President for Budget and Human Resources Kristalina Georgieva referred to the substantial EU financial resources from which Bulgaria benefits and will continue to benefit in the next programming period.
Despite the difficult economic period in which we live, which obviously also affects the European budget, the European Commission's forecast remains positive: growth, albeit slight, is expected in the European area in both 2015 and 2016. In Bulgaria, the percentages are 0.8 and 1.0 respectively. After the country has stabilised politically, it must now seek to make the most of European funds.
Indeed Bulgaria has access to BGN 9 billion (approximately €4.5 billion) From the 2007–2013 period and BGN 32 billion (approximately €16 billion) until 2020. They are amounts “Record-breaking”, provided both for social programmes, agriculture and transport infrastructure, and for youth employment, science, education, and entrepreneurship.
Bulgaria could also attract in its territory Part of the €315 billion provided for by so-called “Juncker Plan”, Europe’s investment plan, which will revive strategic investment essential to restarting the European economy. The country will make greater efforts to identify and remove obstacles facing investors.
