Bloomberg Innovation Index: Bulgaria ranks 42nd

According to Bloomberg’s Innovation Index, which lists the world’s most innovative countries, the Bulgarian economy ranks 42nd, ahead of Malta, Thailand and Argentina. Ukraine, Latvia, Slovakia, Croatia and Hong Kong rank immediately above Bulgaria. Countries are ranked on their scores in seven different fields, and Bulgaria achieved its best result in manufacturing value added. It also stood out for the number of graduates relative to the total youth population, including those specialising in science and engineering. As for weaknesses, the study found that innovation in infrastructure and productivity remains well below the country’s potential. According to Bloomberg, South Korea, Germany and Sweden are currently the most innovative countries, while Italy ranks 24th.
