An agreement for a fast rail connection between China and Europe through Bulgaria’s Black Sea city of Burgas will be signed in March.
Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov announced this after a meeting with a Chinese government delegation on Sunday.
The delegation was led by Ning Jizhe, Vice-Chairman of China's National Development and Reform Commission.
The rail connection is intended to minimise delivery times for container shipments from China to Europe.
The railway will serve all of Europe and is expected to improve the quality of logistics.
Nikolov invited foreign entrepreneurs to invest in Burgas.
The Chinese delegation also expressed interest in container shipping and the conditions for building a motorway link between Varna and Burgas.
The Chinese delegation visited the port of Burgas and was presented with the facility's technical specifications.
Last Saturday, the Chinese delegation examined infrastructure investment opportunities in Varna, another important Bulgarian port on the Black Sea.
China is increasingly active in investing in Bulgaria; many Chinese-owned companies are being incorporated in Bulgaria to access the European market.
Bulgaria’s competitiveness in costs and taxation is attracting considerable interest from the Chinese authorities.
