The context of publication
This page was originally published in 2015 as a presentation of twenty-five reasons to invest in Bulgaria. It discussed business costs, logistics connections, taxation, the labour market and EU programming for 2014–2020. These topics remain useful for understanding the publication’s context, but the rankings, figures and conditions reported at the time do not automatically describe the current situation.
What has changed
Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026. Earlier references to the lev, the exchange rate and future monetary accession therefore belong to a phase that has ended. European programming has also changed: opportunities must be sought in the relevant programmes and calls, not in 2014–2020 allocations. Information on company forms, VAT, incentives and costs requires verification against the date and the transaction.
How to assess an investment today
The need for a concrete project remains valid. The market, organisation, resources, taxation and contracts must be examined together. The updated pages on companies, taxation and property investments provide guidance for discussions with the Firm. Old rankings must not be used as a promise of favourable conditions, returns or rapid procedures.
