Discussion continues on the bill to raise the compulsory VAT registration threshold from the current BGN 50,000, approximately €25,000, to BGN 100,000, approximately €50,000. EU legislation would allow the threshold to be raised as high as €100,000. Increasing the threshold above which VAT registration is required simplifies the procedures for starting a business in Bulgaria, whether through a company or as an individual.
