The extension of Sofia's first metro line to Business Park will be inaugurated on 8 May.
This was announced by Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova, who inspected construction work on the metro.
Fandakova said that road traffic is expected to fall by 20% following the opening of the new metro extension, as around 42,000–45,000 people will begin using the metro.
Local authorities also expect harmful emissions to fall by 7,000 tonnes per year, with more than 8,000 fewer vehicles in the Mladost district.
The new section, which has three stations — Aleksandar Malinov, Akademik Aleksandar Teodorov-Balan and Business Park — branches off after Mladost 1 station.
The extension of Line 1 to Sofia Airport opened at the beginning of April.
