Bulgaria ranks 49th among the 141 countries included in the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report of

World Economic Forum 2015.

Spain tops the ranking with a score of 5.3, followed by France and Germany with 5.2. Bulgaria scores 4. The Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report ranks 141 countries across 14 separate dimensions on a scale from 1 to 7. Bulgaria's highest score is in the Enabling Environment index (5.1), which includes the business environment (4.2), safety and security (5.2), health and hygiene (6.7), human resources and the labour market (4.7), and ICT readiness (4.8). Bulgaria scores poorly in the Natural and Cultural Resources subindex, at 2.7, and the Infrastructure subindex, at 3.9. Given the infrastructure shortcomings compared with the other factors, focusing on infrastructure investment may offer good business opportunities to entrepreneurs interested in companies in Bulgaria's tourism sector.
